Soros Fellowships for New Americans
Visual Identity, Publication, Illustration
Identity and publications for a graduate fellowship for immigrants and children of immigrants
The new American story
Hungarian-born immigrants with humble beginnings, Paul & Daisy Soros achieved entrepreneurial success by reinventing the shipping industry. As a gesture of gratitude to their host country, they created a fellowship program to support graduate study for high-achieving young immigrants. Inscribing an open book inside a compass, we created a new visual identity that conveys the immigrant journey, the prestige of the fellowships program, and the promise of upward mobility.
Mapping New American journeys
Each year, we highlight Paul and Daisy Soros Fellows’ immigrant journeys in the form of an alumni magazine, as well as in print and digital communications materials. While it is important to preserve the prestige and dignity of the Fellowships program, what differentiates the Soros from other fellowships is a sense of the New American dream and an emphasis on a diverse cohort. To that end, the design represents the Fellowships as meaningful and inclusive, for prospective students in all fields and from all immigrant backgrounds.
