AIANY Design Awards

Visual identity and exhibition design for the global architectural design competition

Enshrining Inclusion in Architectural Excellence

A leading international competition organized by the New York chapter of the American Institute of Architects, the AIANY Design Awards recognize outstanding architectural design by AIANY members, New York City architects, or architects from around the world whose projects are sited in New York City. AIANY charged Isometric to create a visual identity and exhibition design that centers inclusion and equity in the built environment while conveying the stature of the awards. The design deploys declarative multilingual typography to signal a welcoming ethos, recognizing the diversity of New York City—a home to immigrants with 10 citywide designated languages.

Recognizing excellence in architectural design

The highlight of each year’s Design Awards program is a physical exhibition at the Center for Architecture—a spatial recognition of spatial design. Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, this iteration featured the winning projects from two
competition cycles: 24 projects from 2021 and 35 projects from 2020, constituting the largest AIANY Design Awards exhibition to date. The organic linework of the design creates a dynamic backdrop for the winning projects, which are featured on MDF panels. The panels are joined seamlessly by category, exhibiting winning projects and firms with equal hierarchy and dignity, while also forming an expression of solidarity on the gallery walls.
