Rule of Thirds

Brand identity, signage, and packaging for new bento and izakaya restaurant in Greenpoint, Brooklyn

Japanese refinement within a Brooklyn neighborhood context

Rule of Thirds is a new 85-seat, all-day bento and izakaya restaurant by co-founders George Padilla and JT Vuong (formerly of Okonomi), in collaboration with Sunday Hospitality. Isometric created a fun yet sophisticated visual identity that transposes Japanese food culture into the diverse and inventive Brooklyn restaurant context. Through the expressive use of a 2/3-circle shape and an illustrative cast of characters, the design extends to a street-level mural, signage, menus, packaging, and digital collateral. The identity system reflects the restaurant’s core aesthetics: minimalist and refined, but with a sense of light-hearted, communal energy.

Expressive, hand-painted street graphics

Given the restaurant location at the intersection of the Williamsburg and Greenpoint neighborhoods, the street-level signage and graphics needed to serve as an inviting gesture for visitors to engage. Collaborating with the team at Noble Signs, we created a dynamic, 40-foot hand-painted mural and illuminated signage, signaling intimacy and warmth.
